homemade booze part 2

1)cook rice
2)cool it
3)spread yeast and colouring underneath the 'barrel'
4)stack rice atop it
5)do the same thing twice
6)add enough water to make it look like some disgusting thick goo
7)top off with the 3 combo
8)shut it with a double cloth layer
9)weigh down with 2 leaves and a knife atop a wooden board(whatever pagan origins i dunno)
10)shut up

not for molotov cocktails, but it's too crude to be drunk like fine beers.got that from my gran

BN FOREVER

BN is the most havoc class in the history of CCHSM.no doubt about that they can even do alot of stuff in the chalet.

day 1:only 5 were on hand at tampines interchange.chalet looked like a penthouse(not a bungalow) and apart from a few ants and a quite dirty floor,it's kinda good.dinner:salmon steak and parma ham.all thanks to the microwave oven and stove.yeah it's back to the mahjong and cards of chalet life, particularly when you dun have much to do if you are concerned about walking down the road to changi village.cas, chris and ruben, smong others start filterin in.so 4 guys and 6 girls had the whole chalet to themselves, and spent a large part of the night gossipin until rain came down.dee king vs dee shit up next and i seem to be the guy who sleeps early, albeit at 0333 am on the first day.

day 2:woke up at 8.30,and with jean and the guys gone,i had the whole kitchen to myself while watchin music videos.my fave onion omelete and bread popped into the microwave oven beautifully started the day and then dee with the ladies left.afternoon got errand,so came back in the evening.barbecue went badly actually. If I were (Gordon) Ramsay I'd have let fly at the guys on the pit.put so much honey for what.and then with the exception of valerie and zhirui, the rest watched me flame the beef.grrr the striploin was gone case(it was too tough.thanks py for letting me know that) but was more successful with the ribeye.

more BBQ advice(the above may (not) be correct)
1:get a large fire going before cooking
2:save the honey for the last minute or so,or don't put at all
3:BBQ does not mean reheating stuff from the frozen foods section in the supermarket
4:don't overdo the margarine
5:Get a large enough grate to prevent food spillage

bum.then sian diaoz until later that night go old changi hospital!aaaahhhhh!it didn't help tt ruben was insulting a few ah bengs as they were walking out of the building.so scared of them and their sticks,we decided to sit down on the ground and wait until the coast is clear.mats are more helpful and less aggressive,I can admit.they even invited us to go up.but in the end it's only the 2nd floor.the 4th floor is reputed to be the most haunted.bang bang bang!!(doors opening and closing)

yawn as always they play until dawn when in the chalet.but they are better, because they didn't get drunk.looking forward to aloha next time round

p.s:costa sands east coast's closing! sob =(

OCS

Good Morning SIR!

I'm happy that my dear cousin has been comissioned as an officer in the SAF at last.oh yeah have a nice chat with his just now and it's so long since i can talk in length to him.oh yeah i'm so happy that i dun have enough tv time...i'm just so content with the weekly football and rugby.see what happens to those impressionable youngsters in the house watching too much drama serials(mostly of not so impressive quality).now they make alot of noise trying to emulate the dramas they watched.worrying la

and the commissioning parade went well, tthough having to wait for 1h before kor marches out is a bit tedious.lucky my uncle, who was once from OCS talked about some millitary stuff, about sphagetti(lieutenants and the sort of junior occifers) and crabs(senior officers,or Sir to most soldiers).OCS IS SO NICE!!!!I dun mean the buildings only.my dear dad,who did decently okay for NS would have been starting to worry if I sign on.

of course harry potter have so much diffference where the movie and book is concerned.overall it's ok,but the best seems to be those rated movies(esp NC16).here are some of the variations

Barty Crouch jr
B:got arrested with those Lestranges
M:Karkaroff accused him in court(while Harry was in the pensieve)

Ced Diggory
B:no mention on his body after he got transported back dead.the feast was turned into a memorial service for him
M:his poor dad was crying when he saw him dead.the memorial service looked as if it was a church setting

Task 1
B:harry dodged the chained-up dragon
M:dragon broke out of the chain and they were then whizzing around.a pukka scene

Task 2
B:Fleur was not disqualified
M:Fleur was disqualified and then she thanks potter for saving her sis

Task 3
B:only Ced and Harry was mentioned
M:Fleur was entangled while Krum was stunned.see the part where he freak out.

Ball
B:Ron was with Fleur
M:Ron and Harry sian diaoz with the Parvatis Siamming One Corner

QWC(the krum part)
B:Veela
M:moving Tifosi.lesson for those Italian ultras next time

update you with more bloopers and bleepers next time

hahax i'm juz as lazy as my fren...whole day edit my dugout times then no time for the rest..but whatever, whose holidays still have blues?

seems like i'm making trips to the library recently...read lots of good books during the time,be it BBQ(who says bbq is just honey drizzled chicken wings and marshmallows?gonna bring in the american version full of wood smoke fragrance/odour),wine(interesting atlas of all the fine wine regions.aspires to sell good wine and beer as well.i can never be a teetolaler,so avoid getting ym liver pickled) or history.

there's one book that i just can't put down...that of Charlemagne.talks about his life and even the middle ages.talk about goin back in time.it's way better than SEA history(admittedly I'm more Eurocentric).had there been 2 basileus living in peace, one at Constantinople(Istanbul) and one at the West,it would have been an earlier renaissance...whatever the case he has so much of a bravado

yay next week's BN chalet.I miss BN!!

YAWNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

hahax that's a misnomer actually.it didn't quite end up the sian diaoz day i've,but wenz just came back from some campy thingy,so it's the second straight week that both gave HP a miss.i think they will dramatically reduce the showtimes for HP...no more sat afternoon ones...haiz muz watch it asap!but i think i got a few kakis to go watch chicky little.might give narnia a miss because i'm so broke =( and those rated movies too are too good but too steep (things like R21 History of Violence which is super zai but comes with a mind numbing amount of...you guessed it...violence)

game on...i won't know how i can add to my measly neoprint album.somehow my plan failed and so it was a walk around orchard centre as I look for Wini at Zara.and there's none of that hair raising experience at that time...just Wini lookin at me,talk some stuff and pass those presents...of course my heart melted seeing her laugh(never mind that she looked merely ordinary without make up).too bad she went to meet her friend late.

evening was rachie's concert.as always my cover got blew up,first by michelle babe and then by another of my teowww mates.but no teowwwing during this concert.i would have done it if TCF was garbling all those stupid dictatorial crap.as always it's so tiring so no more elaboration on that

P.S:bon voyage wini

In Memory.Pacita 1946-2003

2 days of Archives service learning ends...Van,Joce and Doreen...looks like i won't know what you guys would be doing for AVA,but I think CY,Ci,Rara and SK have just did our part for the archiving of art history in Singapore.it's like, with every video watched,we got insights of how much that Pacita Abad have contributed to the art scene in Singapore

unfortunately though, all the vibrant colours and unique media Pacita has worked on,all inspired from her trips around the world, would be only seen on video.if she hadn't worked on the bridge at clarke quay,if not for the collaboration with the Singapore Tyler Print Institute,Singapore's visual arts scene would have been like a desert, much less a melting pot of cultures.though she's Filipino, her contributions to the arts scene deserves to be better appreciated by the public.i find that all of us were questioning who the heck is Pacita Abad, but the videos have more or less rubbed off the art connoiseur in some of us

actually i'm not an insider myself, but the Archives are also doing their part in keeping art history.this stint have been extremely fruitful although I heard tt gary and the guys from Accession got to wield katanas and other artefacts.hehe will leave here for now

ever sian diaoz

these few days have been well...exciting not because of the obvious fun,but the inherent fun that is inside

Friday:since life is so sian diaoz I actually went to school just for 12 minutes for SL briefing and then it's off to orchard.the teowwww gang ppl from 28 are going to watch harry potter but then i knew my time was up when i saw amoz board the 162.in fact harry potter is so well received,i showed up at ps and the 2 logical slots are...you guessed it...sold out.since wenz told me later that she can't make it on the next day,so sian diao double lor.go cut hair at least something

Sat:super sian diao at home again.my plan to pass Wini the presents got delayed yet again, but then she showed up online and then time just ticked by slowly.more organic stuff to sink my teeth into

Sunday:the saw at the Harry Potter game reminds me of...Saw II...i think i'll watch it the next day after i finished Harry Potter.on a more serious note, the 2nd last week at jurong west was a time for greater messages and visions(i'm not supposed to act like an atheist).

night time is the best:going to pan pacific to eat japanese food(fyi my sis having prom now, same time same place),and it's madly ex.the kaiseki that's $85 per person booked without me,which is a good thing actually.the food is...the best quality thinkable after St Pierre's.the fishes are sweet!!haha but the show stopper was the cod(teriyaki style that got charred).the oysters too,are king(much fresher than that at tonkichi.oh heh here's a warning:eating too much fried stuff adds to a bonfire)...so much and still not full..

Monday:Service Learning!!woohoo!erm, lest you think it's quite a glam looking place, the relative obscureness makes it good enough to hide all the repository stuff(no one can go in actually).those accession guys have it better and worse because they have to cart stuff to the third floor for practical while the AVA guys ended up looking at some videos(VCR,DVD,VCD,tape) of somebody called pacita abad...an artist?even those arty farty cognoscenti didn't quite know the name...but ask that in the philippines and you get alot of replies(if that's true)

looking forward to 'slack' tomorrow and wednesday

p.s:i'm broke once again

3505 and the Absolut blasters

OMG 35/05 class chalet was a blast...got so wacky it's an unpredecented 2 days after 2am...it's so late...omg haha careful get scolded.in fact giving you a day by day rant is so passe it's time to describe how mad we can get.

1)Gary's playstation.
2)Arcade games at 1234 am.i suck at street fighter,as always
3)Mahjong.Raine wins most of the time!!argh
4)Absolut Raspberri.purported Harry's one.had to borrow my shotglass
5)Remy Martin.sipping it from a small glass is more stylish.and a good cognac can stand being exposed to air for 2 hours
6)barbecue.part one involves my flaming steak(more about that later)
7)white hot coals.so much Eternal Loop was complaining
8)Poker Cards.Indian Poker instead of Daidee...

here's the script for Wednesday

1)I went to Orchard to get organic steak
2)scouring Bukit Timah for gourmet sausages ended fruitless
3)marinated and prepared the special butter as outlined
4)go back and wait for BBQ to start
5)wait till no one is looking, then flame the gin+raspberry vodka+cherry+raisin mix and see what happens

when 5 goes wrong,Van was alerting everyone and my dear coffee cup of liquor flamed prematurely.forced to take out the meat and douse the flaming liquor on it.then recooked it on the metal plate, more flaming and more leaks!as the goblet of fire burns in a pale blue flame,it's got all its juices concentrated and the taste of the organic ribeye is great, with a hit on raspberry.mmm yummy.and the medium rare meat transports one to culinary nirvana...ooh nice

slept at 5 am,and cognac is always good...better than vodka.but i noticed that alcohol will also make one less alert of surroundings.i slept at dunno wad time and woke up at 9...wonder what happened to the rest who shot vodka down...but I just fantasised about chiobus

heh signing off

Monday, November 21, 2005

getting my damned wings clipped is but one thing I didn't quite want to do,so sian diao the whole week reading Harry Potter from 1 till 5,and i'm watching the movie soon, away from the frenzied crowd of the first few days.the teowwww gang isn't quite free actually...so let me c...

juz finished making the mixed candied peel, but just one thing though,i think i'll regret putting all the grapefruit, orange and lemon peels in one pot,and those kaffir limes as well, which turned a ghastly greyish green colour, yucks

but trust me,the peels look like crystal, and is great as a sweet(a warning though:these peels are highly addictive).here's the method for doing it

citrus peels(lemon,ruby grapefruit or orange)
sugar syrup enough to cover peels,1g per ml(duh)
2 pandan leaves

boil citrus peels in water and rinse, repeat thrice to remove bitterness(do more times for grapefruit).heat to dissolve sugar and water with pandan leaf, float peels on syrup, cook for 1h,leave to cool and then drain out syrup to dry on rack.tastes well after 2 days at most.just let the sugar dry out and/or crystallise

good for a digestif with coffee,or for cakes and pastries

Joseph the cook will leave you with more recipes,in the meanwhile I'm off to chalet tomorrow...yippee

Gotterdammerung

11/11 is the most unfortunate day ever...a series of unfortunate events have made 11/11 far more potent than those friday the 13th crap.this is what happened in quick succession

14XX:a simple plan to deliver presents turned disaster
15XX:absolutely devastated,so rushed to botanic gardens
16XX:wasted money going to the botanic gardens juz 2 talk with Matt 4 de good portion of the hour
17XX:finally bought the presents.but felt bittersweet after that
18XX:I can't blame fate, but if 2 people aren't meant to be frenz, the worst treatment is to have a bad reception and the other one went off in a train
19XX:missed EternaLoop because of some cockout train
20XX:vegetating in the 'express' bus and found out it was a prank
21XX:bloody hell.go there juz to end up being too late
22XX:felt very crap after that

I hope such a thing don't happen anymore, cuz I feel so bad after that

YAY IT'S THE END OF PW

champagne please...noooo we're underage...yar wadever...OP is the most gritty of the PW experience to date...screwed up my loud rapidfire rap with a few pauses and 2 beg your pardons in quick succession, but overall it was quite a good performance...3605 doing some Wild Pets thingy is damn zai lor...got brochure somemore...actually no one ever did Natural Forces but them...everyone do NP and then alot of ppl do stuff such as Young at Heart...sounds a bit cliched but I don't care.just get the grades will do

(talks about PW grades..to the tune of Ricky Martin's new single)

(me)
yea yea

(PW ST)
Crack Crack Crack!!
I don't care that's what Josey said

(me)
I don't care,
I just wanna be yours
I know I told you
I'd Never love you the way that I did again
After all that you did to me

But I got to say I don't care,
I just wanna be yours
And I am tryin' everything in my power
To never ever say
Please come back to me .
But I got to say

the rest of the lyrics doesn't pertain to PW...but it's just as crappy...ahahaha Ricky Martin rox...oh yeahs I don't care anymore...don't talk about PW...it hurts,a lot...

heh it's time to buzz off and so I'm getting my present soon...

Wednesday, November 09, 2005

juz went to print my I&R just now...yay tomorrow is the end of all the crappy systems that the MOE hopes to see yet is contradictory

whatever the case I'm addicted to kawaks and rom games...and those emulators as well, but downloading and loading them is such a chore!yucks, especially for a noobie.but then there's a goddamn kickass manual for playing DOTA in school...note very carefully how this works

you must have a prompt called NT4...download from jpsoft.com...then the following thingy is very important.

D:...]-type C:/ This slash is extremely important, because this is the lubricant
then in succession type the following and press enter

\"Documents and Settings"\0705_Student"\"My Documents"\"My Music"war3.

A warning though:not all computers work.don't bother to try this anywhere except at the free access room. All AJCians are bound to know where's the FAR

whatever the case being a DOTA noob is a very hard life indeed.there are some ways you can learn how to play DOTA

1)join a clan.clans vary,but often charge membership fees.better for multiplayer
2)play on public servers.you need a good know how on IT,and be prepared to take a long time to master DOTA
3)don't play.that's for hopeless noobs

yar wadeva...you never know.now let's fire

Monday, November 07, 2005

3 days 2 OP left, and it's time for intensive prep and pract.serious van, succinct vinifred, stern PX,strict norma, slacker SH/Jo/Me,we'll miss being in the most crappy PW group together...good luck 4 our OP on thus...and then we'll go watch EternaLoop on fri

and good luck to Wini too...for ur OP tomolo...hahz I wished I can end that tomolo, but u lucky girl!awesome la...i think I need enough money to go to Orchard right after OP and then buy you ur bdae present...I think I'm goin 2 buy u a Pooh Plush and a dog tag that will become a birthday card...ooh not quite sweet but it would haf been so millitant enough...haha!

whatever the case I'm getting more and more into the Express Boy drama shown on ch 54.it seems that this is just about the only idol drama I'm prepared to watch, complete with all the hakka, hokkien and all the 'vulgar' gang lingo(this is taiwan, mind you) and these reformed gangsters are quite zai

oops...now signing off

Saturday, November 05, 2005

watching rambo 3 to while time away isn't the best option available, but what can you do when you get excited easily by all the one man heroics.at least I've resolved my OP time overshot probs and most of it is ok...except for the look at the mirror practices...can't wait for the EternaLoop gig next fri...

so it's better to sign off and wait for better stuff to write

Friday, November 04, 2005

ok today is goddamn sian diao...yeah no more conservation crap for me.instead it's some funny AVA thingy that's chicken feet!!listen to transcripts...hohoho...quite good.never wanted to go to accession with that nerd machine...and PW is a long drawn out bore, made better only by the hand droppers of Vinifred a la Yan An and the dictatorial finger.crapos wad de heck...oh yeah lucky there's EternaLoop gig next fri...or I sian diao

and haha I'm getting someone to teach me DOTA and touch rug.heh who say touch rug only for girls...huh?it's for rugger noobs like me la haha...of course there's the rambo 3 on star movies this afternoon...yippee I can't wait for Rambo 4 and Rocky 6...see more exploding planes and boxers...terbaboom!of course not missing harry potter next next week...and my dear fren's bdae a few days before tt...i can't wait 2 give her de present soon...yikes...i'm gettin broke!

dragged back to cell and so i've to stop

absolut crapp

this is one of the posts which I think i'm going gibberish...yikes

It is really true that in love, there's no gain if there's no pain.much less I don't want to be heartbroken, sometimes the best thing to do is temporarily occupy yourself with other thoughts. But escaping isn't an option for me.somehow I would have taken a vow of chastity,if not for the fact that there's nothing that could occupy my thoughts for the long term.philosophically speaking you can actually give excuses to say you're busy,or you're just not fated for it...but when everythings smooth and then you feel your empty heart,it really makes people feel painful, the void of the mental state that isn't filled easily or quickly.

In love there's basically 2 types of people.one who are always fortunate in his/her love life, one who wished he/she won't be bombarded by love messages from the opposite sex,but very few are those who have any good character to balance their looks.and there's another who might not be instantly attractive to the opposite sex,and could only look enviously as others walk around like a couple, delivering sweet nothings to each other while he/she deep down inside wondered how it would be nice to have the same thing happen.it is painful for them even to go out with the opposite sex, never mind getting anyone to really consider a serious relationship

they might suffer more pain when it comes to being steady with someone else, but there's a freaky twist to this story.somehow like the ugly duckling story there's always a swan in them and then one fine day, when least expected, someone saw through their otherwise dull outside to see in them a very nice person who is really quite underrated.but here's the catch, they tend to panic because this hadn't happened to them before.in the end it all boils down to patience, and it's a very happily ever after story

i don't know,and I won't know what would happen in the end

Thursday, November 03, 2005

yeah from my prison cell here's a happy Deepavali and Hari Raya Puasa to the following 'felons'...sorry if it was put till Hari Puasa Night to greet you all...

Big Boss,Boss,Finn,Rahul,my Indian and Malay friends in AJC and other kakis in IJC and anywhere else I've met...sorry I forgot most of you guys....

whatever...Star Movies are so crazy for Stallone nowadays,Rocky 1,2,3(missing 4 & 5 because of PW tomorrow) and Rambo making my otherwise sian diao mornings bearable.too bad missed Rocky 1 and toy soldiers...i went back to sleep...ooh so lazy

but i dun think the vcd stores stock such stocks,so I'm looking forward to the next RealStarz Outing...I miss the 1s16 crew...boohoo!

gets dragged back to cell,so i shall stop writing

Wednesday, November 02, 2005

PW is getting more and more draggy nowadays.so much so that some of my frens are ponning this fri.I can't cause my bro kope my keys.I&R though, poses more probs...n don't tell the school technician.you can play DOTA and arcade games in the free access room.I'll post the command prompt to play free DOTA in school w/o getting caught...stay peeled to this screen for details

looking forward to the service learning project...whee the conservation wing rocks

This is not a slamming session.should it warrant any supervision from a school authority that operates like the East German Stasi I would say I got it from a site which I do not know the address. The gulags seem better than this living torture

I cried during the farewell ceremony and I could say I don't exactly know what I was crying for.happy that he's leaving or sad that he's leaving.Academically I do not deny that he has made the school improve, but the singlemindedness in basing academic excellence at the expense of CCAs have left a trail of uneven growth in CCAs.I do not deny that I love the choir alot, because they do well, and volleyball too...but a lot of the other CCAs become shortchanged as a result.

the proliferation of nerds, for example has left AJC in need of a revolutionary image makeover that does not promise to improve the situation even within a year.oh yeah this year aren't really full of nerds, but the image has stuck in the minds of many of our juniors and the stereotype isn't going to be erased anytime soon.the extent of which is that those who don't act like a nerd are either scraping thru,or retained.the exams are important in gauging the ability of students.no denial about that and I have to live with it.BUT the over emphasis on paper qualifications have lent a new dimension to AJC's oppression where personal expression is concerned.

in fact the most colourful people in AJC are the ones most likely to be retained.and worse still AJC looks more and more like Singapore's society nowadays,or maybe an oppressive dictatorship.in other places,i heard repeat students are more hip or at least acknowledged,in AJC it looks as if retainees are slapped with a criminal record.ugh

oh yeah it looks as if the clash of the old order and the new turks have ended in a checkmate that looks like a stalemate.the reason why AJC people looked so stuck up unlike the more relaxed people of the top 5 and AC and the more contented people of SA and Ny is because of the constant struggle between the old and the new.the old guard's influence, built on years of experience and in my opinion, stubbornness and the new guard's patient but ultimately futile struggle to make AJC vibrant, have turned this place into a hot bed for the most hardened of conservatives and the most extreme of revolutionaries.this is the only place where the council's hands are so tied some people resort to taking matters into their own hands, with disastrous consequences

in effect the retirement of the principal will burst the can of worms due to the pressure,or leak and then it is a new road from here.I doubt the ex Cedar principal will try to upset the old order, but if the greater emphasis on the needs of students is considered,it is likely that the pandora's box will be opened, inevitably leading to problems which in the old principal's view will be very difficult to resist.hence judgement is reserved for now

I empty my pride

CLAO and I'm set for A1

CLAO is getting more and more wacky nowadays...with all kinds of odd questions.we don't care though, because I confirm get 5X over 60 for B to E,then let the F and G take care of themselves.grrrrrrrrrrrr...the format of CL exams are getting so outdated nowadays..and MOE just seems to contradict themselves most of the time.the classic case is CLAO...enough said...let's hope there's some grateful people who did n't forget Alice Teo like most AJC ingrates do after meeting AT

whatever the farewell party of the CLAO gang is at J8 this afternoon, and we all bombed out our wallets at the Cartel...everybody spends $15 and above...including tax...and teow it's an unintended reunion with BN kia...too bad Val was off liaoz.Nearly did bomb out too at the movies...esp when we guys(JJ,Malcolm,Andrew the guy hated by AT,one from 13,some from 14 and 8 in all) went to watch flightplan.plan for election and april snow and zorro all scuppered...argh who ask us don't go city!?haha...yeah flightplan is the most CNB movie ever(Catch No Ball)...run around in an A380 size plane then anticlimax ending...teowwwwwwwwww

In the end a new clique is born....the 'si beh teowwwwwwww' gang, supposedly from all my teows during Alice Teo's lessons after promos

bleahx this public hols is gettin sian by de min...and so my dear old cousin is now on leave...ok I miss him alot...so awaiting the ROD/ORD from OCS...oooh I wanna go OCS!!

whoa I spent half a day improving my new layout...oh yeah I look like a prisoner blogging from a jail called life, more fortunate than most prisoners because they can't even blog at all,let alone keep a diary...too bad the interior of a jail can't be replicated in my layout,so I've to make do with prisoners...this is a guide on how to surf my blog

Prisoner Profile:duh! that's my profile
Convicted Felons:put it plainly,it's the links to friends.unlike most jails there's no full house for this one
Criminal Gangs:another name for Favourite sites
Prison TV and Prison Radio:a selection of my favourite MTVs and MP3s.may be updated least often
Prisoner Phone Calls:aka tagboard. All tags will be screened as you would a prison facility

It's time to be incarcerated in the so called 'detention barracks'

argh I wished I can celebrate halloween with a pumpkin, but now caught in a hard place between AJCian's non celebration of halloween because they have to 'slog' for their CLAO that freaks more souls out than ghosts...contrary to popular belief I don't play DOTA like an expert,so I'm trapped at home vegetating and stoning like a grand arse, unsure of what to do.

and contrary to popular belief that I'm a PZB champ, the (un)lucky lady who happens to catch my eye often disappears in a fleeting second, and the sight of an (un)lucky man flickers away eventually whether he was meant for the long term or just for the thrill of seeking out a guy to play with.

maybe they weren't meant for each other.maybe they were explicitly lovebird-grade material.maybe it offered the short term thrill but wilts like a lone flower.maybe the seed just lay dormant in the ground until that one fine day when it grew and blossomed...But for now it would have been scarcely imaginable to picture that scene of me going downtown holding someone else's hand and looking happy, but maybe I wasn't destined for that at all.If not I didn't get what I wanted...but whatever the feeling is far better than shape...

since this is getting so contradictory...let's stop for a while and ponder again what should I do

checked from frenster...how to win a girl's heart..for guys(note:the author asserts that some are not true)

1. Hugs from behind.(ok a bad idea unless she knows you very well)
2. Grab her hand when y'all walk next toeach other(ok..may not work)
3. When standing, wrap your arms around her(isn't that similar to the 1st one?)
4. Cuddle with her(ok...this needs 2 way traffic)
5. DONT FORCE HER TO DO ANYTHING(this is the most important)
6. Write little notes(ok this works for noobies like me)
7. Compliment her Honestly.(stuff,whatever)
8. When you hug her, hold her in your arms aslong as possible.(advanced course)
9. be super sweet to her(basic knowledge)
10. Pick her over ur friends.. no matter what. even if your friends call u pussy whipped.(really ah...)
11. comfort her when she cries.(very important too)
12. love her with all your heart.(makes the world go round)
13. Pick her up and flirt with her.(whee)
14. Be a gentleman (hold the door for her).(yeah that's a must)

should there be any guinea pigs they would have freaked out at the sight of the devil

oh yeah speaking about the last dinner with our fave seng, thanks for the 4 months with us even if we rebelled multiple times and came close to threatening a mutiny,we'll stand by you even if you dun go up with us...

AJ Open House(Castle) with a large canal as moat

ok it's one of the most awful open houses seen...if seeing VJ's dainty goodie bags werem't quite enough,it seems like AJC are mostly destined to take the trash.lucky my facilitator post was a zuo bo type that just need to plant myself at hall.then go play chess.lame shit i lost to someone with my knight trapped but there's no such probs with international chess

for his last speech it's all the nice stuff in there...though i think there might be a science talent elective programme next time and then the world of AJC will never be the same again...RJ,VJ and NJ has lang electives(nihon-go,francais,deutsch),AC are going to have a drama elective,TJ,NY and JJ has chinese electives...if AJ has a hist elective, they would just go,bonkers

whatever lunch with the few OS ppl who came(shuwen, qixiang, bobo,ms chan) squeezed out some gem of a theory about what really happened to AJC...but details of it are mostly kept secret...

OMG and no more slack periods for PW

Auspicium Mellioris Aevi-Espoir

absolutely tumultous weekend

Mayor's debate championship's over...now can mug w/o inhibition liao.but that morning i was too garang against the councillors...so much for being the most famous J1 who's more famous than the Council chairman. She had to end up restraining my super dry sarcasm against those who talk while i was speaking and muddling through with my crappy accent.one of the most notorious episodes of all time, warrants a complaint

For all the trouble though, the first MCV classes were suitably traumatized or enlightened...this includes a new Nexus where dai dee,bridge,pool...all those anaethema to the conservative teachers in AJC are legal and where teachers can only interfere if there's a brawl or hacking or even gross crimes for that matter...and the pandora's box which i shall not elaborate and better cheer support...on the pipeline for Yvonne is the Ultras who are the hardcore fans.and Miss S isn't one of them, finching away as i spoke

of course this is the most interesting story:mayor's debate finals was a cockout.everyone looks ok initially, then the exhibition debate starts.no problems.then everything just unfurled.absent adjudicators, missing personnel,so much so i had to end up ushering the Mayor into the auditorium, and knowing nothing of what to do,cocked up as well.lucky I redeemed myself and then it's a reflections session that stretched from 9 to 11 and the whole of OS got jailed inside the school compound!haha!and these fortunate souls ended up goin into the staff room as they waited for the OM

Saturday:balloons from 1-7.volunteer work sadly isn't the mainstay of AJCians, who end up mugging all the time.instead of making it seem as if it were a chore, they should encourage more service learning and slightly less classroom mugging.knowing Pooh bear was at Taka but missing her,I feel a bit sad...haha anything

sometimes you can occupy yourself with work and still feel empty,on the inside...if you end up having a crush intruding/coming into your life, this is what happens

either you don't know what to do,trying to evade him/her but then feel the urge to talk to the opposite sex once he/she starts making advances, and eventually you found out that's he/she's nice after all

or maybe this happens...if this part's true(for most of the time)

J: haiz...i nv realised having a girlfren 4 me...or even simply harbouring a crush 4 a girl...would change my life so much...when i venture into town alone...i'd start feelin quite empty
R: yahz... i noe wad u mean...when u get love... u wake up every morning feeling absolutely wonderful

it's really true.once you start feeling empty spiritually,or maybe even spiritually dead for that matter, your lost soul would cling on to someone you like...if religion's not a concern...the main difference between people who have a doting other half and those who did not are that the former feels comfortable with their stead and they feel more contented, while the fragile heart of the spiritually empty, long cold and dead, feeling numb, starts warming again and starting to feel again,as tears stream down from their faces and hearts being touched, they now face a crossroads that would change their present life, and stuck and unsure of what to do,simply plunges into the deep end...

in fact it meant that they would not be able to do what they really want with their stead looking over them, but being a bad but welcome distraction has its perks because they feel more confident and it would look as if they were changed...having said that...

it's becoming a tear-jerker,so i think i better leave this alone for a while and ponder about that later

there are fortunate people who have their other half book half a cafe for their honeymoon month together, and then got showered with lots of expensive gifts.in AJC this would be viewed as showy by the conservatives, and there would be lots of gossip, particularly if the other half hails from some top jc out there

and then there are unfortunate ones who have to live in the shadow of gossip constantly, where even an innocous trip to the movies with a member of the opposite sex are trumped up by opportunistic gossipers in AJC into a scandal of monolithic proportions.same circumstances apply, only in a even worse off way

unfortunately though, this is a sure-fire way to get embroiled in a massive scandal in AJC

Hey Miss S

It's been good being your friend for 4 months, and this simple and elegant testimonial speaks for itself as a testimonial to your inner and outer beautyThanks for being so nice to me,as you do to your other friends, and for taking time to reply my daily SMSes and listening to whatever crap I've to talk about every day

Friends forever

note that i intentionally wanted to diss miss S and duplicitous bimbos from that particular place.whatever the case i just watched charlie and the choc factory yesterday...whee it's so corny...but i'd prefer napola though...with the dollops of violence evident...muahaha...kinda have an enjoyable time with my gd fren out at PS/Cine...whee it's my first time when i'm out so late...too bad zouk's closing...or i'll be able to stay there until 3am after my A levels next year

mean while it's back to mugging

yesterday:the first time organising a debate competition is quite a humbling experience for me...but that's nothing compared to the big day...

the organisation was...to a small extent,a nightmare.never mind about slacking in the LT5,looking after so much stuff, cleaning out the refreshments is another matter.the sec sch students complain they have not much time to eat, while my kakis all devoured the food like no one else...

oh yeah let's juz shut up and rest

Monday, August 01, 2005

oh my gosh...i juz came back from a very rare exciting day...cuz it's the school of rock!hurhur..all the party begins that very afternoon at 1pm...met a guy from 25/05 and I had no qualms about criticizing that vp who views things purely from an admin point of view.to hell with such an ass who doesn't give a damn about student welfare

and i think i should have come earlier as there are now more than 1000 ppl at the open plaza and Serene(my CHC friend) and her fren had to battle their way through the thick crowd..haha seems like my propaganda have worked..half of 35 not withstanding, there's also some good frens, finn and lp..of course all the eternal loop fans, outnumbered by 3-1 fans 3 to 1 put on a spirited fight and yelled..i don't think i should comment whether they screwed their performance or not,but at least most of the non 3-1 fans voted for us,that's why eternal loop is the audience's choice.at the dying minutes when audiobreakout and 3-1 battles for that coveted prize,i decided to 'cast my vote' to 3-1 and they got rewarded for their showmanship.hahaha!i want their album!

but what pissed me off, ironically isn't the small quantity of people who came, but something after Loop had performed.I was talking to Serene and her friend beside the pretzel and lemonade booth(aunty anne's i think) and i saw Miss S.I mean,I don't believe it,but i think she just ignored my propaganda..but some Cedarians are that dao.I know some whould criticize me for this, but i just saw her whizz past.no wonder Clarence didn't taunt me about sourgraping for nothing.(a disclaimer though:don't confuse Miss S with the ex LJB one.I don't call the ex LJB one Miss S.juz plain old Serene.ask my CHC friends if you don't believe it.and the Rafflesians in AJC would know nothing much about the real Miss S.some would criticize my apparent no taste in incurring a larger opportunity cost).and be forewarned about someone who looks very much like miss S.makes me appreciate Pooh more...ooh

whatever that was after I finished my brandied cherry-rum and raisin sundae, complete with chocolate fudge and raisins,a teetotaler's nightmare that i bought from haagen daaze-why such a name cuz they are the best around.the phenolic taste of the brandied cherry, the strong rum taste in the raisins and the chocolate fudge really made me felt even more bittersweet after i finished my last drip.only Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia comes close

dinner was at Straits Kitchen,Grand Hyatt.definitely brilliant local delights that warrants a walk through the busy Orchard area from Meritus to Hyatt.I just hope my prom nite next year would be at either place..whatever the case, the place was kinda fully booked,so the staff told the 4 of us that we've to finish by 2015.i don't usually extend dinner to more than 1.5h,so that suits me fine given we arrived at 1835bleah i don't usually start a buffet without soup, but seeing that i can't find any,i decided to attack the chinese cze char section..or jian is quite good, mum say fried rice also good..whatever the case had a great time raiding the peranakan food corner, complete with the spices..downside?i filled myself to the brim.so no time 4 laksa or rojak.or pancakes for that matter

in the Hyatt, you get a hell lot of de creme de la creme clientele.believe it or not,Rafflesians(RJC,RI,RGS),the principal of RJC.this person needs no introduction(check back to one of my Oct 2004 posts 4 details).half way through my meal,i checked the table that was sandwiched between the chicken rice corner and the indian open kitchen and there you have it

and he was right behind me while i was trying in vain to get some malt candy on my chopsticks.it's nearing the home stretch of my meal so i guess i did the logical thing to do:strike up a conversation.due to the sensitive nature of some parts of the conversation, especially where the taupok is concerned(memories flood back) i decided not to post the whole dialogue.my memory would have been too small for that encounter

there ends an awesome day...and much more to follow.especially the mayor debate series

Wednesday, June 15, 2005

a typical bbq:wings required.potato and corn needed too.lots of soft drinks and satay
something atypical:no wings, juz a few piece of chicken cutlets, lots of fishballs, hashbrowns, nuggets and honey.and wait...some special for the guest of honour.

now my hair's tastier than any normal smoked salmon in the supermarket.yawn...so before i exit, here's a recipe for some of the most stylish steak you'll ever eat, especially from a bbq grill

200g or so hunk of ribeye, striploin or tenderloin(prefably organic.if you can't get French imported ones,go to Cold Storage Bukit Timah or Jelita or Paragon Marketplace,Raffles City or Tanglin Mall for the better Australian beef.those gourmet shops in Bukit Timah also stock great beef)

marinade

it's odd,but there's just 1 ingredient.XO(what we usually call cognac).pour so that everything's covered in the special stuff.marinate in the fridge for 4-9 hours(4 for a hint,9 if you want something assertive),flipping the meat every hour.half way through, jab the meat with a sharp knife and pour some more XO.if it is to be brought to somewhere else to barbecue, wrap it in foil right after the fortification.otherwise put back to fridge

baste

melt some butter, enough to last you the whole bbq-ing process.whip in thoroughly the same brand of XO,a bit of sugar that has been flavoured with the XO(to do so,pour a suitable amount of XO such that it flavours the sugar and makes it moist.flavour again just before starting to put in butter).(note that i prefer a French butter bought from Carrefour.if not any European butter should do the trick)

grilling

a good fire is essential.normal firewood would suffice in all but the most stylish versions, where oak chips would be better.build a fire in the normal way,and when it's quite hot,add more coals.the pyre would be quite hot.careful and put the meat on the grill when the embers are red hot and at it's peak.

cooking

flip the meat every 1-2 mins for medium and 3-4 mins for well done(not so stylish),basting the meat with the butter liberally(be careful of the virulent smoke) and flip for 5-10 times either side.for the last time, baste as per normal, when you flip, add some XO so that it sizzles.turn again, repeat the trick, dish up and serve with potatoes, hashbrowns or just straight

Don't try this at home!

warm a bit of brandy, pour on the steak with the juices, light up and put on a metal plate

here's an unusually hectic wednesday

morning

maths o:duffer cocked and blacked out on seeing the paper.didn't even complete 1/3 of the paper

afternoon:mariott hotel visit.here's the 5 most burning ambitions i want to achieve in my life, according to rank

1)lawyer(enough said about this job)
2)auditor/accountant(i love my numbers so much,i'd wanna end up affixing my name to PWC)
3)politician(PAP Grassroots or revamped opposition taking Parliament by storm.choose)
4)hotelier(surprisingly i might think of starting from the lower end of the industry, but once you do well success is immense)
5)journalist(i need to write well from now on)

evening

victoria concert hall.because of a few kakis there,i've decided to come for their concert.unusual on all counts because i've to pay upfront instead of getting a ticket ready for ushers to check.and victoria has an old style cinema feel...no use sitting on the stalls becuase you get a view similar to the higher circles of esplanade.the hall looks as if we are sucked into a timewarp of the 1960s with all the romanesque pillars...so their repertoire as always...

Russlan n Ludmilla Overture-Mikhail Glinka
anything russian?no.sounds more like a march

Invictus-Philip Starke
stays true to what was claimed.definitely uprising

Sorcery Suite Opus 112-James Barnes
I thought he doesn't read Harty Potter?nvm, cuz the characterisation is quite good, except for Snape's part

Time to Take Back the Knights-Stephen Milillo
RJ did the ghost of medieval knights reference which was lacking in there but amply compensated with a more harder percussion

break
moved out from the stall seats for the circles.this time, getting a stall seat isn't really the best seat as you dun get to get a great view of the stage

Stage Band-basically that was an edit of the Emperor in New Clothes.you know what i mean.something to wake ppl up before the more serious stuff

Magic Overture-Thomas Doss
i missed the second part when i went to eat because i was so famished.from the first part,it's generally ok and well held on by the guy student conductor

Phantom of the Opera-Andrew Lloyd Webber
every band loves this piece.it's slower by half a beat and the main fave part was sorely lagging until nearly the end

NSB Millenium
Part 1 of the Beethoven and Strauss remixes.it looked as if both composers were drowned in techno and they dunno how to swim out of this mess

Dancin Megahits
another remix.but this one's slightly better, though my preference is for more traditional symphonies

very unusual because they played the school song at the end.it's highly unusual actually

encore-forgot piece

oh ya where's shortie!?jerk though misses me alot

I'm back after such an exciting day

Morning:be yourself day.in true AJC fashion they make a mockery out of the Be Yourself definition, because the whole class are required to wear according to a certain theme decided by the class leaders...the poor decision making mechanism meant that I ended up as a punk for the day.and a stylish one at that, because of the painted hair.other than that the karaoke which i got cut-off half way by dwayne became the focal point

Afternoon:PJC is quite ulu,and going there for a debate workshop is definitely tiring.esp when I've to clean out my 6 colours of my hair to just 1.only the ACJC ppl are there.the proud Rafflesians and co are all gone...

haiz I'm so tired now...adios

An Evening With Friends--well...not actually so

part 2 of concerts as ac choir go on stage.by all means i'd have loved it if not for the fact that they have a lot of baltic stuff.seems like whitacre rights have been the sole monopoly of VJChoir, and Malcolm of 28/05 had tipped me off earlier that their conductor wasn't mr kwei.all the more you should check out its worth...silly

AC Choir

Diffusa est Gratia,Jacobus Gallus-short and sweet.coincidentally they will visit his old office at Olomouc in November.but never trust them to get me a Sigma shirt.i won't accept it...juz jk

River Qing Jiang,Leong Yoon Pin-sounds like a symphony...i dunno which, but the middle loud part is flanked by the two soft tones

Sunset,LYP-commissioned by CCA branch.they got Indian,Malay ,Chinese and english lyrics, all rojak together.instrumental reminiscence aside,it sounded like every part was abruptly stopped before each new movement

Kastie Tadia, arr Steven Stammetz-Latvian sad tune which sounded so poignant,no need to learn Latvian.but u need french anyway

PokPok Alimpako-very childish, very funny and the end ended up in laughter,so much so court protocol was broken by LOL

AC Alumnia

before i start i observed something unusual.they bring in a book each...

O magnum Mysterium,Willy Byrd-quite cosmo in its days...it's traditional church music at its best

Benedictus Dominus,Carl Nielsen-first try and another good church tune, lest we are reminded of AC's Methodist heritage

The Beatitudes,Damijan Mocnik-oddly i thought it would be in slovenian.but it's english and another of my fave tunes.of course this being a Methodist institution,we believe in having the Bible quoted all the time

I Will,John Lennon and Paul McCartney-if it's merely a choral accapella remix of the song, allow me to point out the male solo tenor that's highly unusual, unlike last week's performance

Polska and Fugue in F Minor,Jaakko Mantyjarvi-they have a penchant for Finns too...and it doesn't sound like a nokia ringtone as claimed...oof

As You Are-smooth and harmonically rich,as said in the programme.

Sagastipean-i think i snored through it..but at least it could be a lullaby

AC combined choir(i particularly like the D which was intended to look like something which came out of Iceland)

Salmo 150(Psalms 150),Ermani Aguiar-rapid,but there's some samba fused inside 4 u.who says church hymns are serious

Lux Aeterna,Edward Elgar-it's more traditional...which's better.it all boils down to how the songs are composed

Toccata Para Coro,Jesus Pinzon-exciting and nonsensical.i believe it's more of a deejaying class

Suite de Lorca,Einojuhani Rautavaara-a finn remixing Lorca?funny...but at least he didn't turn that into finnish...but i could only catch the following words:cordoba, aeee, malaguena(historically important place in spain/Ivan Ramiro, screech, death in spanish).stylish though even though i'd rather be at seville, valencia or madrid.gonna give cordoba a try next time,or maybe salamanca and toledo

Song for Athene,John Tavener-very slow, very stylish and very quiet.love it too.due in part that it's a funeral song it has a sombre dark feeling

Rondo Lapponico-last piece of regulation time...geez i kinda couldn't concentrate maybe becoz i sneaked out but trust ac choir to do well in voice control.at least there's an encore...and we didn't realise it was the VP who's calling the shots...something like Mrs Woo or the heck

AJC's double header

oh gosh here's part one of my back to back concerts series

seating on an unfamiliar Circle 2 setting i ended up seeing alot of J2s there...though i couldn't see who the performers are...reception was lukewarm anyway and i smiled through the narrow leg room...that's something only stall seats provide.morale of this episode:never leave ticket buying to the last minute or you've to make do with crappy seats

if that is so it wasn't the 165 mins i expected...

Vesuvius by Frank Ticheli-AC had a more shrill version.we all used more percussion

LOTR-skip

Phanton of the Opera-the Principal's favourite...seemed more jazzy than RJ's one

Hidamari by Murashita Kouzou-i remember one of the J-pop songs but i dun noe the name.quite a fast good one

Omens of Love-some 8 yr old boi-boi composed it...funny sial...but at least it's a light hearted un-trou-normand for the heavy stuff ahead

Pirates of the Carribbean-compared to the RJ version it has quite more gusto

CO

Shan Chun de Jie Mu (village festival, according to a very crude interpretation)-joyous,village fare which preludes the more grander stuffJiang Jun Ling-they play it at operas alot of the time.classic that needs nil introduction whatsoever unless you lived in a well.very nice and strong

Lan Hua Hua's diary(even more vague term)-tragic?not quite, but more feminine and softer.kudos for the erhu soloist

Qin,terra, cotta(even more bastardized interpretation)-1st part magnificent,2nd part chilling,3rd part very sad...muz haf been too hawkish

Double Bill

legends of the condor heroes theme(i dunno which one.better say it in chinese, which is she diao ying xiong zhuan)-tvb drama serials and i'm stumped.good effort though

long de chuan ren-double play, double the fun.i particularly like the hippie hairstyle of the CO conductor though i hate ending a concert without encores

Thursday, May 19, 2005

Symphony of Voices-gala premiere

you know what...i spent $54 just for a VJC Choir concert(the most ex on the house plus Rachie's gift),so obviously i enjoyed the show very much although weighed down by the mounting mountain of homework and that Miss S saga, not forgetting all the debt i'm getting embooiled in after this concert.yeah that's the price for sitting on the VIP box,but if you can afford it why not

so guys...i met Yong Guan(RQ's fren) and WiNi(where she looked more stylish without specs) and i dunno who the heck are those...well nice meeting up with those kakis although they all buy $21 tix.ouch i'm broke and i think WiNi's goin 2 tease me about what happened in no time...haha

the Emcees though..are quite a dry witty sort.instead of some announcement via the PA System, they showed up and announced stuff...which includes switching raucous students into silent mode..haha

of course my beloved Rachie(to all those thinking about the Miss S saga...she isn't my stead actually.she's my gd fren) did perform, and she's a stunner...although i could easily stun ppl with my super fancy hairstyle yesterday...and true to a choral performance of classic proportions there's 2 changes of performing costumes quite like the Emmys or other award shows...so let's get a lowdown on the repertoire like all those posts of a similar pattern in the past 2 months

Whitacre's Super Starters(in the glam lookin gowns for the ladies and slick suits for the men)

Leonardo dreams of his flying machine-i couldn't feel the Latin dance hymns,as it seems more like a renaissance piece played acapella on the Medici palace, but the sheer brilliance means i don't care if it's really what the programme has described,so as long i love it

Lux Aurumque-literally Golden Light.not my usual Nerazzurri or Rossoneri lingua, but Latin.when you hear that it's most likely angels galore, and it's really seems like we're going from Florence to The Eternal City, shows how good they are at Musica Sacra

I Thank You God for Most this Amazing day-truthfully i can't catch the lyrics. But it more than pays for it with great arrangement...and another Sacre Musique dat shows how good VJ Choir are

She Weeps Over RaHOON-okok...it's a girls world here.quite a sad piece and ok...so sad only girls could dechiper it.soft, lush and ironic

With a Lily in Your Hand-compared to the next piece it's more fluctuating, though it sounded more like an instrumental piece

Go Lovely Rose-cheerful ballad, surprisingly given the apparent sadness claimed by the programme

Kala Kalla-year ones showtime.guys go sad girls go happy.blow hot and cold.interesting though because of its disparateness unlike the rest which seems smoother.reputably a wedding piece

Cloudburst-very high intristic value.unusual amounts of percussion, even a metal sheet.the best goes to the last part, where the rainy imagination is really reinforced by the thunder from the sheet and the rain sound from the performers...even the audience made noise, this actually meant the finger flicking

Interval:i gingerly asked WiNi to take a pic with me.she was pleasantly surprised but still agreed and I sheepishly asked some passerby to take a pic for me before the next part.it's an absolute flop becuz I was caught staring into space!haha!and WiNi looks like she's posing with a statue...hahahaha...then it's over and the great VJ Choir changes into a hebrew theme

The Ethnic Pottpurri(sic)

Tumbalalaika-i don't know hebrew,so i'll try to give as unbiased as possible.that's quite a sad loud piece

Yerushalayim Shel Zahav-I can't speak Hebrew for nuts, let alone read that.this mostly meant something about Jerusalem.soft, quiet and poignant

Uri Tsafon-middle of the road.another ballad

(VJChoir changes backstage while their ex-seniors show up with an Indonesian theme)

first piece was nice accapella, second piece was a bit sleepy, third was quite ok...i was caught napping(they're back)

Zhu Li Guan-J2s swansong.they could recreate part of Beijing Opera with only their voices.no way will AC surpass any of them

Mu ge,Mei Li de Cao Yuan-mongol themed.similar sounding though

Lu Dao Xiao Ye Qu-okay lor...but that kinda reminds me of Miss S

Deng Li Jun mdeley(Nan Hai Gu Niang+Qian Yan Wan Yu+Wo Zhi Zai Hu Ni)-nice smooth megamix...transition is really silky.the second song remains my fave and i wonder if chinese songs sound best on choirs

Zui Hou de Yuan Wu Qu-the drum distracted me.but quite a slightly sad note to end the day...of course being half a Prussian I could appreciate the millitary tone

Encore 1-Pamugun-surprisingly it was filipino.the only thing forced out of my mouth was...I thought birds have descended literally on the Esplanade roof.this snagged the Gold with Honours in SYF

Encore 2-ex VJChoir members join current ones on stage.their anthem so i won't delve into it

met the VIPs for a few moments.that includes a MP and the principal..and it's a record for coming home late on a normal school day,but 4h with the grandest people in the world for a concert negates the opportunity costs

Friday, May 13, 2005

finally after 7 days of intensive tekaning by trainers the ACJC invitationals prelim rounds are over...though my gang lost to NY(who stuffed J2s inside, esp that 3rd speaker with bridging minds) and RJ(they didn't bring Chere out and still managed to thrash the rest, with a few reserves sloshed in) our guys put up a good fight

and somehow i got the rare chance to catch up with debate ppl n insider talk, something which i dun get to do in aj.kinda find out my contact list in AC is now inflated to include the AC speakers from last yr's RMUN(which i ended up breaking protocol by whining out a fake laugh when i talked to them...heez),and more debate insiders...and the indian dude with the moustache was in fact the no 1 debater in nationals...looks can be extremely deceiving.one thing though...he didn't show up debating

of course lest you think RJ debaters are a whole bunch of atas shitters like AC...i talked to one of the RJ debaters on the train back home and i really was thankful i'm a Raffles sympathiser...not with those guai lan kias from Buona Vista...maybe becoz i once aimed for Raffles and i'm proud even to say dat i couldn't make it...sure they can be bitchy or sucker on the debate arena but they really are your ordinary plain james and janes outside the arena...if AJCians are as good(i mean team work) i think they will win even AC...whatever it was talking from buona vista to tampines(where my new fren lived) and then it's back home...whee

yay it's finally over...and though the guys didn't gel up in time, they did their best, and the nxt round may be a gr8 video 4 us guys

p.s:Bridging Minds is the de facto National team B

ok it's 5 days being grilled intensively for debate and as always i'm so shacked I can't type alot more...

J:(...)
P:yeah got stuff to do...call your over(sic) frens??
J:(...)
P:Haha cheer up!
J:u too

thx Pooh for cheering me up...haha! =)

Friday, May 06, 2005

my birthday is damn sian diao...but whatever I juz got grilled by Ramesh and Cherie, for 6 h flat.life of a debater is like this...put in your all juz to get nothing much where obvious achievements are concerned yet would be useful in the long run.just persist and It'll be ok...

A Tempo XVI

the second show of this year is RJC's A Tempo XVI,and of course my mum's used to my concert going routines.no sign of those headline-busters though

here's Concert Tip No 2:never show up late.the earlier the better.but there's a limit.45 minutes at most.gives you ample time to mill around and still saunter into the venue 10 mins before concert startsok...i'm very likely going to sound like some editor from Wine and Dine,so i'll try.of course i saw a whole gang of your kakis,or ex ones i mean.so the list include(in order of appearance) Yuan Ru(too bad she appealed back to IJC),the innova guy who appealed into HCl thru band,Samz, another Innova girl who's now in NYJC(apparently she knows about the rumour about Juliana and me),Ms Ng,my juniors from CCHSM who i miss alot,my CHC fren and Shortie(with her kakis as well) and a whole lot of AJC ppl

since i wasn't down for any council briefing,as a rich dude with money to burn, spending a night at the Esplanade is the ultimate decadence.so how, let's check out the repertoire.

there's a medieval theme for this A tempo, esp when i saw the promo posters on the day i crashed so the start goes like this

Huntingtower
that's a ballad, they say.but i think i find the insistent bass note emanating more like a opera.but anyhow that fairly exploded with rhythm with a few high points in between.apparently it seemed haunted to the person who wrote the programme, but not me.i find it more like a tragedy

Time to take back the Knights (The Chosen)
a contrasting piece that is quite boppy, and not another medieval ball theme.whereas the last piece was very solemn, this seemed more like the appetizer

Funiculi-Funicula Rhapsody
funny name.but nothing funny by all means.more cute than funny.winds around your eardrums in a brilliant rhapsody.quite cool

With Heart and Voice
inspired by an old spanish hymn,as they said.so how, they literally played this out with their heart and soul and letting the instruments do the talking

Pirates of the Carribean
cameo by the Raffles Winds(aka the Rafflesian Alumni band).
need i say more?quite a rousing piece that is conferred a brass cloak by the orchestra

St Florian's Choral
the composer wasn't popular at first, but this great choral piece retains its 18th century charm, updated with more grace.

Finale from Symphony no 5
whereas ACJC made it sombre,RJC made it sounded more optimistic

Celtic Folk Song Suite
the celtic elements are sorely lacking, but it more than compensated with the grace only brass can give.the middle one was more light, presumably to herald the next song that's just as heavy as the first

Evergreen 70s
you know what, the percussion men look funky in that one, obviously one to dance to,literallyand they are so forthcoming with encores they performed 2,one conducted by a student conductor and one by the in house Japanese counductor, and with the addition of unusual stuff like piano and electric bass, they aren't going to be toppled off their best band award soon

Oh yeah Ee jean (or simply Jean) saw me before she retired backstage.there rounded off a great night

Muse-ACJC's band concert

so guys i've braved little verbal ammo to go to ACJC's concert yesterday.that's called enjoying the high life,to AJCians still reeling from orientation2 tribal funka..whee funky altjira brings back memories of saturday night fever in ibiza or MoS,but esplanade reminds me of prague or vienna

not that purists don't care, but then they let late comers in...funny man...esplanade never like this before one

so ACJC,being masters of arts like Raffles, served up this 12 course menu.wait...2 each from ACS I and BR band and something intriguing.here's the order.it's as if a classy degustation menu at el Bulli, and sometimes such extended concerts may be a bully to one's ears...if they are quite impatient

Surprise piece-I forgot what's the name already
played at the expense of All Pleasant Things by James Barnes, which was to be played after the interval.but anyhow it seemed like those rousing appetizers or tapas that you start before a meal, light and satisfying

Finale from Symphony no 5-dmitri shostakovich(the programme spelt it out the french way, like my email, dimitri.but i prefer the russian.oof enough nonsense)
it gets very heavy this time.the emcee said about this last part being a protest by the composer of the supposed manipulation by the soviets.happy parts at the front and this sombre piece at the back.pretty much like the soup course or the suckling pig

Music for Prague-featuring interlude and toccata and chorale--karel husa
interesting start with percussion only.bells sounds made from xylophone that really make this piece live up to prague's name as city of 100 spires.then all the war sounds that has something akin with the city in an emergency.that's the next best thing before the main courses.must have been a palate cleanser...i wish i can go Hradcany next year...but my gang are going Olomouc.argh!haha!

variations on a korean folk song-john barnes chance
actually that was arirang, performed in 5 styles.pretty much like those degustation menus of a particular food, where the food was cooked 5 styles and then served in small portions as a sampler.in this case i'd find that there's a traditional version,a double tempo version, and 3 other versions which i dun remember except for the 4th which is also quite fast and the fifth which has some teasing interplay

INTERVAL

I met the principal, who had been sitting 2 rows in front with the board of governors and the big brass.so naturally it went on to compliments and about the delay of the 1 intake policy.

Seagate Overture-james swearingen
performed by ACSI band.of course when you're going to sleep, here's something to rouse you.haha i bet that's true.and it's just halfway through!might have been an opening act for the main course

Vesuvius-frank ticheli
performed by ACSI band.the tragic circumstances of the eruption of vesuvius in the 1st century is very well shown with the big bass drum tones that permeate the song most of the time.a sense of emergency is also there in the form of higher pitches.the eruption part towards the end is especially interesting.i can't think of something more garang, like chili con carne

Yorkshire Ballad-james barnesperformed by ACS BR band.ballads have been known to be quite soft and feminine, presumably about love.if this was a beef well cooked and rare, the acs band endowed on it yorkshire pudding...in other words,a masculinity that emanates from an all guy ensemble

El Cordobes-geert felin
performed by ACS BR band.bullfights are very masculine, and a hispanic touch was added by the castenets(sic) that is audible during the middle.a sharply contrasting course to complement the softer one preceding it

Slava!-leonard bernstein
an exciting piece which showcased the operas that this particular composer had composed(i supposed so).carnival atmosphere climaxes with the band yelling the same word that gives the song its name.happy by all means.in fact it's near the end of the main courses, now for the heavyweights

Phantom of the Opera-andy lloyd webber arranged by johan de meij
longest piece.and world famous as well.it gets a makeover of brass with the nifty hands of the acjc band.whereupon the opera type atmosphere was prevalent in its original version, the band gave it a particularly joyful atmosphere, and is resplendent with all the ups and downs of the whole opera, encased within 20 mins

The Little Mermaid-joy bacook
essentially dessert.under the sea...so would the audience go...

The End-i thought i'd only be the only AJC guy there.then i saw 3 seniors, who were pleasantly-unpleasantly surprised by my prescence.got out with a very nice feeling in my heart

next up:
RJC Concert on 11 April.I got a stall seat this time.juz hope i'd be second time lucky with mr hodge seating more than 15 rows away

and update:
15/05:ACJC String Ensemble night-most likely i won't be going unless something happens
17/05:VJC Choir nite.because of Rachie i'm going.and maybe my dearie as well.but then...can you say a white lie about cca?
22/05:confirmed my school one.joseph chin is not joseph chin if he doesn't get the most expensive tickets
23/05:ACJC Choir nite.a back to back one may make my mummy scowl.but i dunno.i say i got fren in all top 5 jc,plus ijc, acjc sajc tpjc nyjc...and of course ajc as well.no excuse not allowing me to go since my fren invited me
08/04:VJC Band nite.good since you can cook up some funny excuse on friday and say i'm now at orchard road.wait...i think i've a talk by rohan gunaratna.so a taxi trip there seems more likely

that's all for now

juz came back from lecture crashin...yay!!it's my first time haha!

with the abolition of the PAE...aka 1st 3 mths usin ur prelim result...there's many changes.some good.some bad.too bad with this new policy there'll be no more lecture crashin or AWOL without gettin caught.so today is the second last day.in fact they are letting their guard down instead..

crashin:illegally attending lessons of other schools.very prevalent in most J1 ppl.nerds excluded

every place has it's way of dealin with such people.some juz dun care.some pursue until the dude was humiliated.today was my first time(and last time) doing crashin practical.somehow there's an art to crashin

target:Raffles

heard from frens it's super easy to crash.so how?morning.the side gate was open.just sneak in before 8.30.since alot of my fren go fly kite...u can't loiter around anyhow.in the canteen none cared.never mind that my big boss was at home and bungled up my plans.teachers dun seem 2 see who was crashin

here were a few tips when crashin
1:it's not u can come in and then crash lecture as you like one.the first thing one must do is get an insider in the college to arrange 4 lectures to crash.can be J1 or J2.just make sure u have a good day where there's many lectures.and of course he/she must know that you're coming.or u can forget about crashin
2:in case of trouble, hiding in toilet is the best.since RJ has so many toilets,i've decided to put the cleanest toilet in one of the floor as base camp.escape in case of trouble.lock up cubicle pretend shit.i won't mind revealing where i hid.the 7th floor
3:only stupid fools crash tutorials.what do i do when idle?no library.since it's right above staff room...it may arouse suspicion.best place?still canteen
4:wear their badge or tshirt.buy from the bookshop.would arouse less suspicion than without any of these.anyway u can have them as a souvenir after mission accomplished
5:touchwood.if u're caught, juz say u're here to appeal.lame trick not to be tried unless desperate

of course part of crashin is getting to see ur long lost ex sch frens.many ppl who crash dun haf the luxury of NYGH,HCI/TCHS n Rafflesians(and to a smaller extent ACSI,St Nics,DHS n Crescent...list goes on).so u may haf 2 meet other sch ppl who noe u.of course talkin with them for a while really helped kill time.note that u can also look 4 fren one.u may need to inform them or pay a surprise visitanother thing for first time crashers.check out what's in store.a guided trip is a must.ask ur fren bring u around.in raffles they dun care.so my senior brought me around.they have theatre, sports complex, multi purpose hall, gym n the required track.and they hold their flag raising on some elevated surface.how cool was that

of course the main thing is crashin lectures.do not go arts one unless you're sure u can blend in the surroundings.f maths, computing etc are also no-go zones.big lecture theatres decrease dramatically the chance of you gettin caught.i went for the chem one.bring at least some foolscap cuz u need to take notes and not arouse any more suspicion.and the lecturer has too many cold jokes already.wah piang the chem si beh cheem eh

after crashin.when u have no more, troop out of the door before u get caught and go further and further into safety.don't try to loiter again

and so i heard from my frens that the L1R5 cutoff for arts was 9 without bonus.some said 10.way too controversial already.u may need an appeal form for 10.forget about 11 unless u got sports to stake ur claim.likewise,i heard that they take 1200 and then throw out those who did not reach cut off.some others say the pae batch would be augmented by a few more reinforcements.lastly cchsm ppl get discriminated?well...to a certain extent.i wonder if many cchsm ppl still think raffles is impossible to go one.no body fill rank,no body to look out each other for

Before I end.thanks to these ppl
Hazel--all the logistics n arrangements for lecture crashin.
Mayanne--a few hints on where's the safest place to hide and enter
my senior--for givin me a guided tour round the compound
the CCHSM ppl who went there:Hanzhi,Jean,Jovian,Jin Jing,Linlin,Zhang Yi-taking out some of their time to talk to the crasher

Here's a special Feature from our editorial about all the slang and jargon used in (almost) all the JCs out here...

Exclusive to...

CJC:shing ga them...ga them...wat's done is done...(i dunno wat dialect is this...not hokkien or cantonese...)

HCl:Wake Up Your Idea...sian diao...eh that means boring...(haha that's really sian jit pua)
IJC:tellytubby hill..where my kakis run around during pe lesson(you know what...it really has gd fengshui and literally kai men jian shan liao)
JJC:JJ Spirit(erm dat's freakin lame)
MJC:(clocks in with 3)1:mer-lion and mer-maid...(students call each other these)...2:lai-on's den(their principal's office...hum ji ah)...3:Qool La(Cooler Cool...drank to much Qoo or what)
MI:1:duh!(oh yes!...yeah duh is arbutthen+bored)...2:Our little playground(PE ground actually...wonder iof MI PE tr slack or the ground look like playground)
NYJC:fantabulous(since their english is quite bad...they mishmash and say fantastic and fabulous at the same time)
NJC:1:chap-a-lang(mish mash...pretty succinct)...2:CMI...cannot make it(really clever acronym)
RJC:that's so gay lah...or wimpy(wait gays are wimps?)
SAJC:AICK(dunno wat exclamation)...100% chop stamp...(so long...i think it should have been guarantee 100% chop stamp warranty card)
TJC:1:mugger...bookworm(really used alot time one)...2:not so lucky heights(they go there for PE and are stumped by the stairs..or is it)
VJC:sia...la...unbelievable...(well...thats' really unbelievable...esp when some anglo students of VJ roll their tongue and say xia lan instead)

and so how TPJC,SRJC and YJC...no slang ah...poor thing lo...muz haf been teacher clampdown nag at y'all say proper english...

Universal Use

crash:means illegally attending lesson or lecture of another college...actually taken to mean trespassing...too bad with the abolition of the PAE there's no more of such
pon sch/lesson:run away from lesson halfway through the day or simply not coming at all...also gone after 2006...this is used as a front for crashing lectures, idling around, avoiding any teacher...and even illegal class outings

okok...enough of crapping...O lvl results come out in i dunno how many hrs time...SHOW HAND!
